Hypemarks is a fresh new way to categorize and organize Twitter posts with links. In their own words,

Hypemarks is a personal community of trusted friends and tastemakers recommending each other awesome sites worth checking out to make finding what we would want or like on the web more relevant and less frustrating.

Since the demise of Delicious, users have been without a clever method of bookmarking links. Sure, Google has a bookmarking tool, but it is not well known and is quite basic. Frankly, other web applications that I have seen simply don’t have as much detail or such a friendly user interfaces as Hypemarks.

Awesome Features

Hypemarks can import your Twitter feed and categorize your posts with links within.Give permission for Hypemarks to access Twitter, and you are golden. The import is quick and painless and will update automatically with your links posted to Twitter.

The user interface is quite nice. I like to have simple interfaces with logical paths to create, delete or modify settings and data stored within. Hypemarks accomplishes this with moderately sized font and a graphical representation of each bookmark.

My home page shows the latest bookmarks, with the opportunity for other Hypemarks users to share and like. One of the nice features found within is the ability to create new categories. If you don’t want to user the standard categories provided, you can create your own. When you add a new “Hype,” you have the ability to select the category placement, whether or not you want a screenshot included and the ability to add a custom title and site description.

Things that need Fixing

  • Clicking the Hypemarks name/logo, located on the top-left of the Hypemarks page, takes a user to http://hypemarks.com/home. However, when clicked, no hypemarks appear.

Final Thoughts

An initial review of the site displays a revitalized method of collecting and socializing bookmarks. The only unfortunate aspect of Hypemarks is that logging in using Twitter still allows the application to post Tweets for you. In a conversation with Hypemarks, they indicate that the login does not allow posting of Tweets for me. As you can see below, it still does. That’s a no, no for me.

I really like the concept and implementation in this web app. They have done a terrific job with the site. I look forward to using Hypemarks when the login feature is corrected. EDIT: This issue has been corrected. Users can now use their Twitter credentials to login without allowing Hypemarks to “Update your profile.”
